SHERMAN O. FILES

Sherman O. Files, 87, longtime Tiffin resident, passed away Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin with burial following at Oakhill Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Sherman Owen Files was born Sept. 21, 1928, in Columbus City, Iowa, the son of Leander and Eva (Herring) Files. He graduated from Tiffin High School and shortly thereafter married Dorothy Carson on Aug. 10, 1946, at the First Christian Church in Iowa City. He served many years on the Tiffin Fire Department and loved working on vehicles. He worked at Frank's Service Station delivering fuel and working as a mechanic before joining the Iowa DOT, from where he retired. Sherman enjoyed time spent mushroom hunting and fishing and daily walks at F.W. Kent Park were commonplace. He always loved spending time with his family.
His family includes his daughter, Victoria "Vickie" Slade of Tiffin; granddaughter, Tina Merta and her husband, Brian, of Fairfax; grandsons, Jace and Teagan Merta; brother-in-law, Earlis Rohret; as well as extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents; siblings, Douglas Files, Lila Flansburg (Claire), Lucy Rohret and Joanna Ranshaw (William); as well as his son-in-law, Vern Slade.
