Sheri 'Sheryl' Ann Gilds
SHERI “SHERYL” ANN GILDS
Anamosa
Sheri "Sheryl" "Honey" Ann Gilds, 64, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Marion Village Community Room, 700 35th St. Marion,
Iowa (casual dress).
Sheri was born Sept. 9th, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, to Jim and Betty Sullivan. She graduated from Kennedy High School in 1975. She received an Associate of Applied Science degree from Kirkwood in 1984, as well as an Associate of Arts degree in 1985. In 1988, Sheri graduated from Mount Mercy College with her Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Sheri worked in both accounting and human resources for over 20 years, where she strived and excelled in helping others grow in their personal and professional lives. She had such a big heart full of love and always wanted to help in any way possible. After she could no longer work, Sheri volunteered as she was able with the Jones County Coalition.
Sheri is survived by her children: daughter, Patiance Murphy (Jeremy) of Marion; and her son, John Matthew Murphy (Amie) of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by her sisters, Joni (Steve) Hoffman of Minnesota and Pam Jensen of Cedar Rapids; her brother, Dacodah Fossel of Cedar Rapids; her only grandchild, Adyn John Murphy; many nieces and nephews; Amy, Dustin, Christian, Jared, Addalyn, Evan, Emma, Bentley and Elliott; and many other family and friends, including Sheryl Porter.
Sheri was preceded in death by her grandparents, Alma Ann Greene, A.B. Greene, Walter A. Schneider, James P. Sullivan and Valla Sullivan; her parents, James Ady Sullivan and Betty Ann Sullivan; and great-nephew, Adler Goldsberry.
Sheri's love of music, nature, animals and family was always present. She had a smile and a laugh that would light up a room! She loved fishing, camping, playing guitar, sitting around a fire and spending time with family. Especially with Adyn who called her Honey, not Grandma. She also loved her "Boys": Tooley, Reggie, Shorty and Kelbee. Those four dogs kept her on her toes for many years and she treated each one like a king! She had them all since they were puppies and they were truly her babies! She loved them all so much!
Sheri's family would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice of Mercy and Anamosa Hospital and staff. A very special thank you to Linda Oberbroeckling, Jones County Jets and to so many others who were there to help Sheri, her fur babies and her family along the way!
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in honor and in memory of Sheri at Veridian Credit Union, (reference Patiance Murphy, for Sheryl Gilds). Please share a memory of Sheri at www.celebratelifeiowa.com/obituaries/.
