Sheri Lynne Strauss Moreland, 58, of Ottumwa, passed away July 9, 2025 at Mahaska Health Hospital in Oskaloosa after a battle with breast cancer.
She was born December 18, 1966 in Cedar Rapids to Gary and Gloria Fox Strauss.
Sheri graduated from LaSalle High School in 1985 and from the University of Iowa in 1989. She married Michael Joseph Moreland on September 18, 1992 and moved to Ottumwa to start a family.
Sheri worked for the Ottumwa Community School District for 19 years, retiring in 2024 upon the birth of her grandson. She loved children and dedicated her life to her two boys, her students, and all the neighborhood children.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish and attended St. Mary of the Visitation.
Surviving are her husband of 33 years, Michael; their sons, Nick (Chelsey) Moreland and Samuel Moreland; grandson, Grayson Moreland; her father, Gary Strauss; brothers, Brian (Jody) Strauss and Bradley (Tara) Strauss; and her father-in-law, John Moreland.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Gloria; and her mother-in-law, Mary Moreland.
Her body has been cremated.
A Christian Wake Service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 13th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends until 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 14th at St. Mary of the Visitation with Father Joseph Sia presiding. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Ottumwa or Market Street Landing Inclusive Play Space.
