Shepley, John D.
John D. Shepley, 92, of Charles City, died Monday, May 17, 2010, at Marengo Memorial Hospital. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City. The Rev. Brian Shepley will celebrate the mass. The Rev. Carl Ries and Monsignor Stanley Hayek will concelebrate the mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City, with military honors by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, where the Knights of Columbus will lead the rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour before the mass Friday at the church.
John Donald Shepley was born in Bolan, Iowa, the third son born to John and Pearl (Cahill) Shepley on Jan. 14, 1918. John was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception Academy Class of 1936. John had a strong work ethic. During World War II, he served his country in the United States Army, including duty overseas.
John is survived by his children, daughter, Barbara (Leslie) Graham of Eyota, Minn., son, The Rev. Brian Shepley of Victor, and son, Thomas (Jennifer) Shepley of Chester, Va.; grandchildren, Erin (Lane) Johnson of Ramsey, Minn., Emily (Russell) Gehling of Eau Claire, Wis., Andrew Graham of Eyota, Minn., AnnaMarie Koehler-Shepley of Tampa, Fla., Audrey Shepley of Chester, Va., and one grandchild due in November; four great-grandchildren, Peyton Johnson, Spencer Gehling, Tyler Gehling and Griffin Johnson; two brothers, Jack of Minnesota, and Gary of Nevada; sister, Daryls (Jack) Kielman of Marble Rock; one cousin, Eugene Cahill of Knoxville; and sisters and brother-in-law, Irene Ferch and Robert and Val Ewen of Charles City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Pearl; his stepmother, Vivian; his wife, Eleanor on Feb. 19, 2008; granddaughter, Melanie; and brothers, Lawrence and Cleo.
