Shelley M. Peterson, 46, of Marion, died Thursday, April 10, 2014, at her sister's home. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, April 14, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father David Beckman. The family
will greet friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a vigil service will begin at 2 p.m. The family will also greet friends one hour before Mass at the church on Monday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Amanda Peterson and Dylan Peterson, and their father, Paul Peterson, all of Marion; her mother, Dorothy "Dory" Drew of Cedar Rapids; sister, Dana (Brad) Butschi of Robins; three nieces, Nicole, Zoey and Josey; special friends, Bob, Mary and Jo-Jo; and many aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her father, Denny O'Brien.
Shelley was born Sept. 23, 1967, the daughter of Denny and Dorothy (Drew) O'Brien, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A 1986 graduate from Washington High School, she graduated from Capri School of Cosmetology in 1987. She received her RN degree from Kirk-wood Community College in 1994. Shelley worked with special needs clients for REM of Iowa, who were all dear to her heart. She also provided home health care.
Shelley was an avid reader and bingo player but her greatest love of all was her children. She was the most caring and loving mother, daughter, sister, caregiver and friend.
In her short number of years on this earth, Shelley was able to touch many lives in many different ways. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial fund has been established in Shelley's memory for her children.
