Shelia Ann (Sutton) McEowen, 65, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024, at Westridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids, following a 20-plus yearslong, courageous battle with Parkinson’s. The family will greet friends from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa, where a Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m., with Certified Celebrant, Suzanne Seigel Renner officiating. A Private Family Committal Service will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery, in Quincy, Illinois.
Shelia was born on May 25, 1959, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Marvin Sr. and Norma (Fossett) Sutton. She grew up in Alburnett, Iowa, and graduated from Kennedy High School, in Cedar Rapids. For 24 years, Shelia worked in the housekeeping department with St. Luke’s Hospital, until she became disabled. Shelia thoroughly enjoyed her visits with Bob to the farm north of Quincy. She had a deep love for all animals, sunsets, moonrises, and rainbows. She also enjoyed trying her luck on scratch tickets and decorating for the holidays. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Shelia is survived and lovingly remembered by her companion of 28 years, Bob Jansen; his sons, Brian Jansen and Doug (Krisdeena) Jansen; her mother, Norma Sutton; grandson, Kaidyn Toms; siblings, Debbie (Stacey) Frank, Pam (Matt) Shoup, and Marvin Sutton Jr. (Kathy Thielen); and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Sutton Sr., and son, Brandon McEowen.
Memorials in Shelia’s memory may be directed to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at give.michaeljfox.org.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to both Dr. Todd Ajax with Washington County Hospitals & Clinics; and the entire staff at Westridge Care Center for the love, special care, and help they all gave to Shelia during her illness.
