Sharon was born to the late Calvin (Ted) Stroup and Maxine Kolschefski on July 22, 1941, in Torrington, Wyo.
Sharon is survived by Daniel, her husband of 54 years; her four children, Kim of Iowa City, Kari (Randy) Rundle of Mount Vernon, Kristi (Tom Jerome) of Harpers Ferry and Kip (Jerri Renner) of University Heights; her sister, Pamela; half brothers, Calvin, David and Dean Stroup; five grandchildren, Joshua (Anna), Jeremy, Jessica, Sarah and Hannah; and three great-grandchildren, Renae, Jack and Wyatt.
Sharon enjoyed hunting pheasants in South Dakota with the Gross, Oberlitner and Sheldon families, with her beloved German short hair pointer, Kate. Additionally, she was an avid sailor, gardener, and cross country skier. She also enjoyed dancing, tai chi, sewing, quilting, and working in local volunteer community programs such as hospice and Chautauqua events.
Sharon married Daniel on June 28, 1959, in Aberdeen, S.D., and shortly thereafter moved back to Gettysburg, S.D., where they resided until 1970, when they moved to Iowa City. While in Iowa City, Sharon worked at Dows Dental Research Institute in the College of Dentistry at the University of Iowa. Upon retirement, Dan and Sharon relocated to Cornucopia, Wis., on the shores of Lake Superior, where she continued her love of sailing.
She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Oct. 22 in Gettysburg, S.D., at 10:30 a.m. at the Masonic Lodge followed by a reception.
Instead of flowers, the family requests a memorial be made to Peppi's Hospice House, 2715 N. Wyatt Dr., Tucson, AZ 85712.
