Shea, Patricia 'Pat' A.
Patricia “Pat” A. Shea, 71, of 932 Third Ave. NE, Oelwein, died Friday, June 15, 2012, in her home after a sudden illness. Services: 11 a. m. Thursday, June 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein with Father Harry Koelker officiating. Burial: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Hazleton. Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein, with a rosary at 4 p.m. and Scripture service at 6:30 p.m.
Born Aug. 4, 1940, on the family farm near Wadena, the daughter of Glenn and Mary (Stence) Probert, she married Daniel Shea on Oct. 8, 1960, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Volga. Pat graduated from Volga High School in 1957 and then continued on at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, where she interned at Mercy Hospital for a year. She was a tab tech at Mercy in Oelwein until retiring in 2000.
Survivors include her children, Dan (Kathy) Shea of Cedar Rapids, Sandy (Chris) Ries of Edgewood and Bobby (Missy) Shea of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Jamie Shea, Danielle Shea, Amie (Brett) Hunter, Matt Hamann, Morgan Shea and Dustin Shea; four stepgrandchildren, Caryn Fry, Colleen Ries, Nathan Ries and Natalie Ries; five sisters, Katherine (Jack) Lantaff of Lovell, Wyoming, Martha (Clark) Burgin of Oelwein, Glenda (Gary) Wytaske of Hastings, Minn., Teresa Kocourek of Hopkins, Minn., and Cindy (Duke) Luther of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan (May 1982); daughter, Sherry Hamann (Nov. 2000); a sister, Mary Ellen; her parents; and a special friend, Bill Murphy.
A memorial fund has been established for Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the American Cancer Society.
