Shea, Daniel F.
Daniel F. Shea, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center following a long illness. Funeral mass: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Burial: St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church. A vigil service will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Daniel Francis Shea was born March 11, 1939. He grew up on a farm near Fairfax and attend St. Patrick's School in Fairfax. He married Mary Kay Newton on August 4, 1962, at Sacred Heart Church in Waterloo. After their marriage they lived in Cedar Rapids and became members of St. Patrick's.
Dan is survived by his wife, Mary Kay; his daughters, Donna Kapsalakis and fiance Doug Phillips of Cedar Rapids, and Julie (Steven) Ruiz of Cedar Rapids; his siblings, Phyllis (Charles) Becker of Norway, Thomas Shea of Keystone, and Mary (Jack) Rolinger of Mesa, Ariz.; his grandchildren, Christopher, Felicia, Jordan, Caitlin, Daniel, Tyler, Brandon and Bryce; and his great-grandchildren, Dante and Trey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Pearl Shea.
Dan was a machine assembler for Cherry Burrell/Evergreen Packaging Equipment for 22 years, retiring in January 2001. Dan loved to play tennis, take bike rides and go fishing. He was a loving husband, father and worked hard all his life to care and provide for his family. He will be greatly missed.
