It is with very, heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Shawn “Shawny Bubbles” Flanagan on July 5, 2024.
Shawn was born prematurely on St Patrick’s Day, 1982 to Peggy Flanagan in Iowa City, IA. He spent the first six weeks of his life fighting to survive. Shawn started life in Belmond, IA, the eldest of three brothers. His partner in crime and best friend, Steven Flanagan was born a mere 14 months later. Shawn and Steven were extremely close growing up: where one went, the other followed. They were often fishing, swimming, mushroom hunting, sledding and snowmobiling. Shawn was even more excited when his youngest brother, Scotty was born in 1992.
Shawn graduated high school in 2000. He had a sweet and gentle soul, always helping whomever he could; even when he didn’t have anything to spare himself. He was an avid music lover, and loved watching movies. Unfortunately Shawn struggled and battled with many demons during his short time on this earth. He will be greatly missed by those that loved him, especially his mother. There are no events planned. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert and Mary Younger, an aunt, Judy Younger, one brother, Scott Flanagan, and girlfriend Sharon Thompson.
