Shawn Barker, 44, of Monticello, died unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016, at his home.
Funeral services will be private for the family, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. A public visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Goettsch Funeral Home in Monticello.

Surviving are his son, Rylan Barker, Iowa City; his mother, Judy Freese, Monticello; his brother, Chris (Diane) Barker, Sheldon; his stepbrothers and sisters, Eric (Susan) Freese, Jeremy (Julie) Freese, Kirk (Nikki) Freese, James (Kate) Helle and Clarissa (John) Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bernie; and stepfather, Gary Freese.
Shawn Bennett Barker was born Sept. 8, 1971, at Great Lakes Naval Hospital, Chicago, the son of Bernie and Judy Siebels Freese. Shawn attended the Monticello Community Schools. He was employed at Franklin Industries in Monticello as a welder. Shawn married Michelle Mettler at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Monticello. The couple later divorced.
If Shawn loved anything in this world, it was his son, Rylan, and the Detroit Lions.
