Shaw, Francis (Frank) Leroy
Francis (Frank) Leroy Shaw, 66, of McAllen, Texas, passed away June 19, 2012, at LifeCare Hospital in McAllen. A graveside service with military rites will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at Greenwood Cemetery, Masonville, Iowa. Lunch will follow at the American Legion Hall, Ryan.
He was born Oct. 12,1945, in rural Delaware County, Iowa, the son of Oliver and Frances (Scanlon) Shaw. He was educated in the area and graduated from Manchester High School. In 1975, Frank married Pamela Cavins in Cabell County, W.V. One child was born to this union; the two later divorced.
Frank married Helen Guenther in March 2002 in Boulder, Colo. He served in the United States Air Force from 1963 until his retirement in 1985, where he was awarded several commendations and medals including the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with four oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with six service stars, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with four oak leaf clusters, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon with one service star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross for deeds of valor or heroic conduct while in combat. After retirement, he worked for the United States Postal Service, and as a store manager in Lama, Colo.
He is survived by a son, Ross A. Shaw of New Port Richey, Fla.; and siblings, Genevieve (Robert) Frentress, Manchester, Helen (Robert) Manternach, Manchester, lola Millard, Manchester, Lawrence (Kay) Shaw, Marion, Charles (Marilyn) Shaw, Hutchinson, Minn., David (Elaine) Shaw, Springville, Douglas (Mary) Shaw, Niagara Falls, N.Y., Charlotte Shaw, Surf City, S.C., Joanne (Ken) Hansel, Dundee, Marjorie Shaw, Vinton, Nancy (Ron) Savago, Ryan, and Marie Shaw, Manchester.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his parents, Oliver and Frances Shaw; and brothers, Richard Shaw and Michael Shaw.
