Shaw, Betty Mae Harold
Betty Mae Harold Shaw, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 31, 2010, at Windmill Manor, Coralville, following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Edgewood Family Fellowship Church by Pastor Craig Bex. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
Betty is survived by her four children, Diane (Vern) Shaw-Weiland of Mesa, Ariz., Kathryn (Eric) Whitver of Linden, Kevin Shaw of Dubuque and Julie Shaw (John Rathbun) of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Brian, Jessica, Breanna, Lakotah, Erik, Aryn, Dylan and Derek; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Joan Gordon of Cedar Rapids; a niece; and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; son, Gary Paul; parents; and grandparents, Muriel and Armand Harold.
Betty was born Feb. 22, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, daughter of Paul and Marjorie Herington Harold. She married Earl Shaw on Sept. 10, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. She attended Wessington Spring College in South Dakota and taught school until the start of her family. She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church.
Betty had a quick wit, beautiful singing voice and a generous spirit. She had a passion for those less fortunate and volunteered at Madge Philips Center. She had a strong faith and was a devoted member of Edgewood Baptist Church. Betty was devoted to her family and will be missed by the many lives she has touched.
Betty's family would like to thank Dr. Margo Schilling of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics / Internal Medicine, the entire geriatric team, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Faculty Practice, the staff of Windmill Manor, and the unfailingly, outstanding support of Iowa City Hospice.
