Shaull, Sandra Kay
Sandra Kay Shaull, 61, of 2515 Kenwood, Ottumwa, died at 10:50 a.m. Aug. 24, 2009, at Hospice House in Ottumwa. A Remembrance Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Presbyterian Church in Blairstown, with the Rev. George Bishop officiating. A celebration of Sandy's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 19, in the fellowship hall of First Christian Church in Ottumwa, with the Rev. Gary Sneller officiating. The celebration will include food and conversation. Guests are encouraged to bring memories to share. Inurnment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blairstown at a later date. Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Nov. 29, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Lloyd and Marguerite Thode Shaull. She was a 1966 graduate of Benton Community High School and a 1970 graduate of Cornell College, Mount Vernon. Sandy worked for the Iowa Department of Human Services from 1971-2004, first as a social worker, later as county director for Henry and Louisa counties, then as a management analyst and lastly as a day care consultant.
Sandy enjoyed reading, traveling, going to movies and eating out with friends. She was a strong and independent person, character traits that served her well following a stroke in 2004.
Surviving are her father, Lloyd Shaull of Blairstown; her sister and brother-in-law, Susan Shaull-Scheer and Ron Scheer; two nephews, Jared Vogeler (wife, Kim and sons, Brennan, Trevor and Kael) and Sam Scheer; two nieces, Kodi Scheer and Kate Marzolf; and special friend, Cyndy Danielson and her husband, Dale Marzolf.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Marguerite Shaull.
