Shaull, Elaine Catherine
Elaine Catherine Shaull died Monday, April 16, 2012, at Mercy Iowa City at age 80. Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 20, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Victor. Father Brian Shepley will preside. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Williamsburg. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg.
Elaine was born Nov. 4, 1931, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the daughter of John C. and Evelyn C. (Duncalf) Meyer. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1949. On April 6, 1951, she married Harlyn R. “Gump” Shaull in Mountain. Home, Ark. During the 1960s, Gump and Elaine owned and operated Gump Stop on the Square in Williamsburg. She then worked 25 years at the University of Iowa, retiring in 1992.
Elaine was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Parnell, and St. Joseph Altar & Rosary. She enjoyed doing puzzles, flower gardening, watching sports, especially Iowa football and the Chicago Bulls, and most importantly, spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, Larry J. (Colleen) Shaull of Williamsburg; two grandchildren, Todd (Melanie) Shaull of Cedar Rapids and Emily (Shane) Phillips of Williamsburg; and six great-grandchildren, Patrick, Breanna, Kyla, Landon, Hanna and Ian.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1999; a brother, Wayne Meyer; a daughter, Cathy Shaull in 2009; and an infant daughter, Jean Shaull.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospital Hospice of Iowa City.
