Sharon L. Mortvedt, 79, of Ames, died peacefully surrounded by her family July 29, 2015, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at First United Methodist Church in Ames.
Sharon Lee Nielsen was born April 21, 1936, to Russell and Elva (Grove) Nielsen in Jewell, Iowa. She graduated from Jewell High School with the class of 1954. She married Loren R. Mortvedt on July 27, 1957; they just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. To this union three children were born: Janelle, Jeryl and Mitchell. They made their home in Olin, Iowa, until 2007, when they moved to Ames. Sharon was a homemaker and also worked several years as a tax preparer for a tax attorney. Sharon enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling the 50 states, trips to the casinos, playing cards and her coffee groups. She will be greatly missed by all.
Sharon leaves behind her husband, Loren Mortvedt of Ames; her children, Janelle (Kirk) Luther of Creston, Jeryl (Matt) Thibaudeau of Novi, Mich., and Mitchell (Patti) of Winterset; her cherished grandchildren, Trevor, Kelby and Kayla Luther, Aaron, Blaire and Cole Thibaudeau and Benjamin and Zachary Mortvedt; her brother, Norm Nielsen of Bonita Springs, Fla.; her sister-in-law, Janice Nielsen of Omaha, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Gary Nielsen in 2014.
In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to the family and will be given to First United Methodist Church in Ames and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
