Sharon Kay Melrose, 53,
of Cedar Rapids died unexpectedly early Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center. The family will have a memorial service at a later date. Teahen Funeral Home is assisting
the family.
Sharon is survived by her only child, Jason Melrose; her mother; her brother, Steve (Susan); her nieces, Kelli and Emma; her sister-in-law, Barbara Hamilton; her aunts, Melody Kelly and Judi Viliborghi; uncle, Russel Hein; numerous cousins; and many lifelong friends, who know who they are.
Sharon was preceded in death by her father, her husband and several in-laws.
Sharon was born Nov. 19, 1964, in Hazelcrest, Ill., to parents, William "Bill" and Beverly (Hein) Hamilton. She was their second child and only daughter. Cedar Rapids became the family hometown in 1972 thanks to the Quaker Oats Co. Sharon graduated from Washington High School in 1983. In 1995, she married Dennis Melrose at the former Five Seasons Hotel, where she was employed for many years. She believed that people who were employed by the service industry were the most valuable people on Earth.
Memorials may be sent to Habitat for Humanity.
