SHARON D. (MATTHEWS) MEIKLE
Cedar Rapids
Sharon D. (Matthews) Meikle, 85, of Wausau, Wis., formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away at the North Central Health Care Center in Wausau, Wis., on Sunday, July 25, 2021. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with certified celebrant Randy Walton officiating.
Sharon was born April 17, 1936, in Manchester, Iowa. She was the daughter of the late Robert E. and Alta (Harris) Matthews. Sharon grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On Dec. 31, 1953, Sharon married Leland Meikle in Iowa City, Iowa,, and lived in Cedar Rapids until moving to Wisconsin and then Hampton, Iowa. After she retired, Sharon moved to Decorah, Iowa. Sharon was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, but also attended First United Methodist Church in Decorah.
Sharon worked as a secretary in the school systems in Wisconsin and Iowa. As is true for so many women of her generation, the title secretary was inadequate for all she did in her role. She enjoyed the children and loved being around them.
Those left to cherish Sharon's memory are her children, Sheri Meikle Rose of Omaha, Neb., and Patricia Fairchild of La Crosse, Wis.; grandchild, David (Kristi) Slifka; siblings, Sandra Brenneman of Indiana, and Richard Matthews of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at North Center Health Care Center for all of the love and support they have shown Sharon while she had been in their care.
