Sharon J. Phillips, 84, passed away Friday, March 14, 2025, at the Vinton Lutheran Home, where she had been a resident for the past two years.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 9:00 until 10:15 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 AM with Rev. Stephen Preus officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton, St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Sharon was born on June 2, 1940 in Aurora, IL to Burton and Rachel (Davis) Miller. She was raised on the family farm near Maple Park, IL and graduated from Maple Park High School in 1958. She attended Illinois Wesleyan College in Bloomington-Normal. On May 27, 1961, she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Phillips in St. Charles, IL.
Bob and Sharon settled in Davenport after Bob graduated from mortuary school. Sharon was a homemaker and worked part-time as a secretary at Palmer Chiropractic College. In 1972 the couple purchased Phillips Funeral Home and moved to Vinton. Locations in Keystone and Blairstown were added later. Sharon was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton and St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone during the 17 years she and Bob lived in Keystone. She was active in her community and was a past member of PEO, Vinton Country Club, and Sweet Adelines. Together they enjoyed couples golf and bowling leagues as well as various card clubs. They enjoyed traveling, spending time in Florida, Lake of the Ozarks and Las Vegas. Sharon’s greatest joy was her three grandsons.
She is survived by her son Mike (Kristy) Phillips of Vinton; daughter Mary Phillips of Vinton; and three grandsons, Robert (Grace) Phillips of Kansas City, MO, Jack Phillips of Ankeny, and Will Phillips of Cedar Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob in 2021; her sister Delores (Wayne) Scott; 2 brothers, Roger (MJ) Miller, and Harold (Nona) Miller; and her nephew, Jerry Miller.
The family wishes to extend a thank-you and appreciation to Dr. Brian Meeker and all the staff at The Vinton Lutheran Home and the Keystone Care Center for the wonderful care given to Sharon.
