SHARON I. BRYANT
Iowa City
Sharon I. Bryant, 73, died peacefully Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at Mercy Iowa City Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m. at Lensing Oak Hill Funeral Service, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville. The Rev. Jacque Berlien will officiate. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Friday. Burial will be at Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Sharon was born March 20, 1944, in Oregon, the daughter of Floyd and Nadine Castle. The family soon moved and she was raised in the Des Moines area. Sharon married Paul Bryant on Sept. 25, 1987, in Newton.
Sharon was a 120-hour certified CNA and worked for hospice the first few years after moving to the Iowa City area in the late 1980s. She was most proud of her time as a manufactured housing dealer and successful business owner, which she and her husband opened in 1995, helping people into their first homes, until health issues caused her retirement in 2010. She had a great love for her pets, especially Gordy, her Yorkshire Terrier, who was her fisherman that would catch his own fish; Bear Bear, her motorcycle dog, that rode with her on the Harley Davidson; and Chewbacca, who was her companion and protector the past two-plus years. Sharon enjoyed time spent camping, fishing and boating with family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Paul; her children, Greg Groomes, Kevin Groomes and Curtiseena Jackson; her siblings, Roger Castle and Bernice Herrick; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; her stepson, Jeremy Bryant; daughters, Helen and Gwendolyn; and her siblings, Walter, Le Roy and Leonard Hildenbrand and Keith Castle.
