Sharon Ann McLaughlin, 78, of Swisher, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation: 4 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. February 1, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Sharon was born March 6, 1945, in Blue Ridge, Georgia, the daughter of Merlin and Ella Mae (Bailey) Hugh. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids. She later returned to Kirkwood Community College and received her nursing degree. Sharon was united in marriage to Jack McLaughlin on July 27, 1963, in Cedar Rapids. She worked for College Community School District, St. Luke’s Hospital and Amana Family Clinic. Sharon was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Society. She was an excellent cook who loved cooking for friends, family, and her church. Sharon will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Shawn McLaughlin of Swisher, Colleen Netolicky of Cedar Rapids, and Dee (Mark) Olson of Solon; grandchildren, Ashley, Clayton, Kyle, and Megan; four great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Sharon Lindroth, and Mary McLaughlin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
