Sharar, James R. 'Jim or 4-Hairs'
James R. “Jim or 4-Hairs” Sharar, 70, of Iowa City, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, at Mercy Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial, with military honors, will be at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be just before the services, and later at The Salvation Army on Gilbert Court in Iowa City.
Jim was born Feb. 23, 1940, in Iowa City, having been raised in the West Liberty area, where he attended schools. After school he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving one enlistment. During his service time he worked as an aviation mechanic, skills that served him well when he returned to this area. Jim has worked numerous jobs over the years, most recently at the Sheraton Hotel as head of maintenance.
He was a member of the American Legion and a former member of the Eagles. He was a man who enjoyed life, often the one with the jokes, he liked his western movies, John Wayne, and his Budweiser, but most of all he was just Jim, a good man.
His family includes his wife, Joan; their six children, 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and a sister.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and a son.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jim's memory.
