Shannahan, Dorothy Jean
Dorothy Jean ShannahanDorothy Jean Shannahan, 85, passed away in her home of a sudden illness, Sunday, June 10, 2012. Dorothy was born Sept 3, 1926, in Williamsburg, Iowa, to Earl and Albie Yearian. Services will be Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with a visitation on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.
Words cannot express the lasting memory she will leave upon her family and friends. Dorothy was and will always be remembered by her children as a rock-solid, tough-as-nails mother who expected them to always do their best at whatever they chose to do. Her presence, advice, leadership and love will never be forgotten by them, her extended family, or anyone she became friends with.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Tom Shannahan, Peg (Ted) Wolf, Sue (Harry) Tate, Pam Shannahan, Lyn Shannahan, Rex Shannahan, Mona (Dave) Gilmore, Kevin Shannahan, Jackie Shannahan and Scott (Mickey) Shannahan; her brother, Harlan Yearian and sister, Lovell McGillicuddy; and her grandchildren, Dani (Gary) Blin, Dan Shannahan, BJ (Sarah) Tate, Darcy (Vince) Parks, Justin (Joanna) Gilmore, Shannan (Mike) Fleming, Katy Shannahan, and Trevor Shannahan. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Newman Shannahan in 1965; and siblings, Byron Yearian, Earlyne Jones, Neva DiStefano, Bob Yearian and Lloyd Yearian.
