Shaffer, Robert Ivan
Robert Ivan Shaffer, 86, of 6722 Waterview Dr. SW, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Stonebridge Church by the Rev. Randy Scheil. Private graveside services will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Teahen Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Robert is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, Robert (Dawn) Shaffer of Kirksville, Mo.; two daughters, Becky (Gary) Schlotterbeck of Atkins and Michelle “Shelly” (Robert) Tiedtke of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren Erin, Mark, Allison, Shannon, Tonya, Kelli, Jeremy, Tiffany, Blake, Leslie and Nicholas; 11 great-grandchildren, Jackson, Juliet, Evie, Otto, Kennady, Lincoln, Ethan, Brady, Bentley, Jaxson and Brooks; his sister, Alverta Williams of Tiffin; two brothers, Walter (Betty) Shaffer of Iowa City and Delmar (Sally) Shaffer of Kalona; and two stepchildren, Julie (Karl) Hufnagel of Seattle, Wash. and Brian (Janis) Vorhes of Ankeny.
His first wife, Doris; a sister, Veva Colony; three brothers, Paul, Mervin and Wayne Shaffer; and great-grandson, Alexander preceded Robert in death.
Robert was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Oxford, the son of Walter and Edith Roberts Shaffer and was united in marriage to Doris Irene Aubrecht on Feb. 7, 1948 in Tiffin. She died in 1999. He was united in marriage to Ruth Ellen Rogers on June 15, 2002, in Cedar Rapids. Robert graduated from Tiffin High School and retired in 1985 as the owner of the Heating Service Co. He was a member of Stonebridge Church
Robert loved spending quality time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed meeting friends for coffee, touring in his motor home and relaxing at the cabin.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
