Shaffer, Marian
Marian Shaffer, 89, of Silver Pines Assistant Living, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Murdoch- Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Dan Clark Bridges. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial in Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Marian was born June 3, 1922, in Troy Mills, the daughter of August and Linnea (Forslund) Carlson. She graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids in 1940. Marian was employed as the executive secretary to the comptroller at Link-Belt Speeder/FMC for over 30 years. Marian was united in marriage to Louis R. Shaffer on Oct. 14, 1946, in Cedar Rapids.
Marian made friends everywhere she went, especially over morning coffee at local cafes. She loved to dance and volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Goodwill and the Salvation Army. Marian was a long time member of Hope Lutheran Church. She was very devoted to her family and faith.
Marian is survived by one son, Steven J. Shaffer of Cedar Rapids; nieces and nephews, Ken and Sharon Wright of Cedar Rapids, Linda and Steve Jenkins of Hiawatha, Roger Selken of Dubuque, Lori Ann (Nick) Nauman of Bettendorf, and Kristine Wright of Kansas City, Mo.; and her faithful dog, Muffy.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Louis on May 4, 1970; her parents, August and Linnea Carlson; three sisters, Helen Carlson, Mae (Harold) Wright and Lillian (Clarence) Selken; and a nephew, Roy Wright.
