Shadden, Evelyn 'Mike'
Evelyn “Mike” Shadden, 62, of Toledo, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, at her home under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 3, at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with the Rev. Thomas Dowling officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in rural Tama. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Evelyn was born Dec. 4, 1950, in Toledo, Iowa, the daughter of George and Teresa (Kvapil) Rund. She graduated from South Tama High School. On Oct. 12, 1968, she was united in marriage to Roger D. Shadden at the Tama Methodist Church. She owned and operated Mike's (Zeno's) Restaurant in Toledo since 1977. Evelyn was a member of the Tama Legion Auxiliary, Tama-Toledo Chamber of Commerce and the Iowa Restaurant Association. She enjoyed watching birds, doing jigsaw puzzles and taking care of her flowers. Mike always liked meeting and greeting her customers at the restaurant even after she was starting to feel ill.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Roger in 2007; and one sister, Peggy Lacina.
Survivors include one son, Scott (Tammy) Shadden of Tama; three sisters, Pat (John) Tepoel of Tama, Maxine (Butch) Kroeger of Toledo and Betty (Steve) Plowman of Tama; a brother-in-law, LaVerne (Sue) Shadden of Springville; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
