Sexton Gary Witt
Gary Witt sexton
Mount Juliet, Tenn.
Gary Witt Sexton, 65, of Mount Juliet, Tenn., gained his heavenly wings on Nov. 6, 2022, after a short and valiant battle with cancer.
Gary was born on Oct. 6, 1957, to Jack and JoAnn (Nelson) Sexton in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Gary was a 1976 graduate of North Linn Senior High School. He attended DeVry Technical Institute and earned an associate degree from Edison State College. He honorably served four years in the U.S. Navy. Gary worked as a truck driver, insurance salesman, car salesman and a maintenance supervisor.
Gary was an accomplished drummer and performed with many bands in Iowa, Ohio and Tennessee. His true passion was the game of golf and he was truly happiest whenever he could play a round. Gary enjoyed playing poker and watching sports on TV. He rarely missed a Saturday during the college football season, especially when the Iowa Hawkeyes were playing as he was a lifelong fan.
Gary could be quite a character with his fiery red hair matching his fiery personality! He did mellow in his later years but would still debate passionately if he felt strongly about the subject matter. He loved and doted on his precious wife, Dinah! He was also a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who encountered his beautiful soul!
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Jack, grandparents and several uncles.
He is survived by the love of his life, Dinah; two daughters, Heather and Katie (Nicholas); two stepsons, Jason (Michelle) and Michael (Abigail); two stepdaughters, Lynn and Krissy; two grandsons, Collin and Wyatt; step-grandchildren, Kelsey (Hunter), Justas, Damion and Karmyni; mother, JoAnn; brother, Dale (Mary); sisters, Dennice (Chad), Diana and Jennine; and numerous nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts and cousins.
He also leaves his beloved pets Presley, Simba and Rambo.
Gary leaves to cherish his memory, lifelong friends, Roger Lennox, Dan Krapfl, Tim O’Brien and Steve Baty.
Gary never really knew a stranger and had many dear friends that will mourn his passing.
The family wishes to thank all the health professionals at the VA Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., who cared for Gary, helping him fight this vicious disease.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
