Severson, Linda R.

Linda R. Severson, 61, of Iowa City, died peacefully Friday, Aug. 19, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A service to celebrate Linda's life will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, with the Rev. Marsha Acord officiating. The family will greet friends after 4 p.m. Friday. Following the service, friends are welcome to join the family at The Kirkwood Room.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Linda's name for local non-profit agencies.

Linda was born March 6, 1950, in Des Moines, the daughter of Robert and Evonne Ceperly Severson. She was a 1973 graduate of the School of Social Work at the University of Iowa.

Linda was the human services coordinator for the Metropolitan Planning Organization with the City of Iowa City, previously employed by Johnson County Social Services and Systems Unlimited.

Linda served on the numerous boards and committees including the ARC and the Coalition Against Domestic Violence. She was always organizing clothing drives, food drives and other community events. Linda was a tireless advocate for people in need. Her caring heart and spiritual embrace will be missed by many.

Linda is survived by her sister, Jean (Bill) Clark of Palmetto, Fla.; her brother, Larry (Joyce) Zenor of Mount Vernon; two nephews, Andrew Ditsworth and Mark (Ginger) Zenor; her niece, Dr. Marlys (Clay) Kraus; great-niece, Alex; and great-nephew, Walt.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
