Sevart, Vincent Paul
Vincent Paul Sevart, 90, died Thursday, August 4, 2011, after a short illness. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. Ludmila Catholic Church by the Rev. Dennis Juhl. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. today at Teahen Funeral Home where friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Vincent is survived by his wife, Hilda; son, Mike of Atkins; a daughter, Martha Jane (Gary) Kolek of Shellsburg; a brother, Gerome (Gerry) Anthony; six grandchildren, Phillip (Heather) Kolek, Valerie Kolek, Jen Underwood, Josh Sevart, Augie (Becky) Sevart and Travis McCormick; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Francis, John Joseph, David Edward, Francis Ferdinand, Alban Joseph, Regina Marie (later to become Sister Michelle), Donald Eugene and Joseph.
Vincent was born to John Cornelius (J.C.) and Mary Ellen (Ella) David Sevart in St. Paul, Kan., on Jan. 23, 1921. On Aug 7, 1942, World War II and the U.S. 5th Army Air Force took him to the South Pacific Islands where he helped guard and patrol forward air bases as US forces liberated territory from Japanese control. The USS Ernie Pyle brought him home from Japan. Vincent was discharged from the service on Dec 10, 1945, and went home to Kansas where he would eventually meet his first wife Letha (who preceded him in death July 2, 1987). Together they had Regina Marie (now deceased), Martha Jane and Mike.
Vince started working at Penick and Ford on March 9, 1954. Vince retired after almost 30 years on July 1, 1983. This gave him time to pursue his true passion working with and displaying his antique gas engines and home built hot air engines. Vincent remarried July 29, 1989, to Hilda Sullivan.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
