Serrill, Evelyn Clift
Evelyn Clift Serrill, 90, of Iowa City, formerly of Des Moines, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at Mercy Iowa City. A memorial service to celebrate Evelyn's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Bob David and the Rev. Kyle Otterbein officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church or the Oaknoll Foundation. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service.
Evelyn was born June 18, 1919, in Holly Springs, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Emily Lockwood Clift. On Aug. 3, 1940, Evelyn married Julian B. Serrill in Sioux City. Evelyn was a longtime resident of Des Moines and was a charter member of the Wakonda Christian Church. She worked many years as an executive secretary for the Meredith Corporation. In 2008, she moved to Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City.
Survivors include her three daughters, Julie (Larry) Pedersen of Indianola, Kathryn (Pete) Wallace of Iowa City and Linda (Jim) Ely of Omaha; six grandchildren, Bonnie (Rob) Baldus of Norwalk, Scot (Kim) Pedersen of West Des Moines, Rebecca (Jason) Schuchert of Coralville, Rachel (Carlos) Tellez of Silver Spring, Md., Mark Ely of Boston, Mass., and Greg Ely of Omaha; 10 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Annabel Greseth of Dawson, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and five siblings.
