Serbousek, Thelma Marie (Kahle)
Thelma Marie (Kahle) Serbousek, 88, of Fairfax, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fairfax. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fairfax, where there will be a 7 p.m. prayer service. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Thelma was born Dec. 17, 1921, south of Watkins, the daughter of Herman and Eleanor (Schulte) Kahle. She married William L. Serbousek on April 17, 1940, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway.
Thelma enjoyed tending to her beautiful gardens. She had many creative talents from writing poetry, drawing, sewing and gardening. She had a strong faith and devotion to the Blessed Mother. Among all of her talents, her greatest were her dedication to the happiness of her family.
Thelma is survived by her children, William G. (Patricia) Serbousek, Paula (Wayne) Holub, Mark (Sandy) Serbousek and Greg (Sarah) Serbousek; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Lee (Kahle) Atherton; sisters-in-law, Irene Kahle and Myra Serbousek; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William L. Serbousek; a son, Douglas P.; granddaughter, Sarah (Serbousek) Miller; and brothers, Sylvester, Raphael and Francis.
