Sell, Mary Madeleine
Mary Madeleine Sell, 86, of Oelwein, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein after a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, at Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein, with Father Harry Koelker officiating. Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Surviving are many cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eugenie; and a sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Harvey Gifford.
Born Nov. 30, 1923, in France, to John H. and Eugenie Marie (Capdeville) Sell, the family moved to Oelwein in 1927. Mary graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in 1941. She worked for the Chicago Great Western Railway (later Chicago and Northwestern) for 43 years, retiring in 1985.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Rosary Society.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
