Seifert, Virginia Mae
Virginia Mae Seifert, 86, of 1505 Eighth St. NW, died Friday, June 15, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center after a sudden illness. Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday.
Survivors include four children, Steve and wife Kay of Ontario, Canada, and Dennis and wife Jacklyn, Debby Rife and husband Don and Bruce, all from Cedar Rapids; sisters, Betty Brown of Iowa City and Rosellen Seaton of Deep River; 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Alice Ellingson and Mary Matson; and a brother, Ed Matson.
Virginia was born Feb. 14, 1926, in Newhall, the daughter of Edwin and Ida Matson. She grew up in Newhall with one brother and four sisters. After graduation she worked at WMT Radio as a secretary. She married Larry Seifert on June 17, 1947. He died in 2004. They were married for 57 years.
She loved to attended garage sales, auctions and the many trips she and her husband spent going to the Canton, Texas Flea Market. She also enjoyed playing the slots at various casinos. She beat cancer three times and always had a positive outlook.
Memorial donations may be given to the National Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
