Seeland, Harold H.
Harold H. Seeland, 94, of Elkader, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at his home. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Thursday, July 7, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkader. Interment: East Side Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader, and one hour before services at the church on Thursday.
He was born Jan. 18, 1917, in Elkader, to Charles and Sophia (Kruse) Seeland. He attended Clayton County Boardman Township rural school. Harold was united in marriage to Helen M. Nichols on May 31, 1940, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was a lifelong resident of the Elkader area, farming until his retirement in 1983. Harold was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church and in the community, where he held various offices: chairman of the Bethany Lutheran Church, Central school board for nine years, Elkader Little League, Swiss Valley Creamery board of directors, Lions Club and the Extension Council.
He was a lifelong Cubs fan, enjoyed golfing and traveling.
Harold is survived by his wife, Helen of Elkader; three daughters, Janice (Lynn) Reinicke of Des Moines, Jean Seeland of Waterloo and Joyce (James) Larson of Peoria, Ill.; son, Charles (Kari) Seeland of Elkader; two grandsons, Andy and Tommy Seeland of Elkader; and a son-in-law, Gary Millard of Coggon.
Preceding Harold in death were his parents; a daughter, Joann Millard in 2007; two sisters, Hilda Schnack and Helen Seeland; and one brother, Harley Seeland.
Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader is in charge of arrangements.
