Seedorff, Harriet Jean
Surrounded by her family, Harriet Jean Seedorff, 72, of Manchester, Iowa, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2011. She fought a courageous 17-month battle against pancreatic cancer. Harriet was born on March 10, 1938, in Bosworth, Mo., the only child of Harry and Audrey (McCoy) Teeters.
Harriet attended Dubuque Senior High School in Dubuque, Iowa, and graduated in 1955. After graduation, she was employed by KDTH radio station in Dubuque where she wrote “jingles” and later worked in personnel for Interstate Power. She went on to marry Marlowe (Buck) Guetzko on Nov. 2, 1958. Together they had four children, Toni, Scott, Mark and Laura. Before Buck's death on Dec. 7, 1985, Harriet and Buck enjoyed 27 years of marriage.
After a long friendship, Harriet married Charles (Bill) Seedorff on Sept. 29, 1990. During their 19 years together they enjoyed time with family, traveling and spending time at their cabin on the Mississippi River.
Over the course of her lifetime, Harriet was selfless, led by example and never met a stranger. From close friends to new acquaintances, she had a natural curiosity to discover “their story.” Her caring and nurturing personality left an imprint on everyone she met. She cherished her many friends whom she met through a variety of interests that included bowling, aerobics and bridge club.
Harriet is survived by her children, Toni (Gene) Browning of Manchester, Scott Guetzko of Independence, Mo., Mark (Lisa) Guetzko of Manchester, and Laura (Neal) Jackson of Johnston.
Harriet's grandchildren include Abby and Ryan Guetzko, Sophie and Harrison Guetzko and Zachary Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Buck Guetzko; and her husband, Bill Seedorff.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a Harriet Seedorff Memorial Fund which will be donated to the University of Iowa Foundation for Parkinson's research.
