Seboldt, Albert Gottlieb
After a long and eventful life, Albert Gottlieb Seboldt, 89, passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011. A visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. today in the fellowship hall of St Andrews Lutheran Church, 305 Third Ave., Van Horne. Funeral services also will be held at St Andrews on Monday, Feb. 21, at 10:30 a.m., with a flag presentation conducted by Thomas J. Bevins American Legion Post 148 of Van Horne. Interment will be held at St. John Lutheran Cemetery near Newhall.
Albert was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Willow Springs, Mo., the son of Henry and Anna (Kaestner) Seboldt. The family moved to Iowa in 1924 and farmed in the Van Horne area.
Albert served in the U.S. Navy, 1942-1945. While on duty in Miami, Fla., he was married to Leone Miller on May 3, 1943. After the end of World War II he returned to the Van Horne area, where the couple farmed until retiring in 1986.
He was an active member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, served in various offices, and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by Leone, his wife of 67 years; his daughter, Judy Reese of Cedar Rapids; his son, John, and son, Terry and wife June, all of Columbia, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy in infancy; son, Thomas; grandson, Jason; brothers, Carl in infancy, George (Dorothy), Ernest (Marcella) and Otto (Patsy); and sisters, Frieda Garbers (Mike) and Hulda Stueck (Lorenz).
A memorial fund has been established in his honor.
