Sean Roorda, 38, of New Hampton, Iowa, formerly of Central City, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa following a brief battle with cancer. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 11, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Sean was born on Oct. 15, 1983, in DeWitt, Iowa, the son of Douglas and Gena (Fowler) Roorda. After graduating from Central City High School in 2001, Sean went to the University of Northern Iowa where he received a Bachelor’s degree. He also received his Master’s degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. Sean was a processing engineer at ATEK Metal Technologies for 12 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in New Hampton. Sean enjoyed reading and was a beautiful painter. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his father, Doug Roorda of Belle Plaine, Iowa; siblings, Gretchen (Greg) Hollingsworth of Glendale, Ariz., and Brennan Roorda of Belle Plaine; nephews, Grant and Graeme Hollingsworth; as well as his aunts, uncles and cousins.
Sean was preceded in death by his mother, Gena Roorda.
