Sean M. Kelley, 43, of Round Rock, Texas, formerly of Iowa City, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2016.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at St. Thomas More Church, 3000 12th Ave., Coralville, with Father Stephen Page officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Family committal services will be at Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sean Kelley Memorial Fund, c/o Hills Bank and Trust, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Sean was born July 17, 1973, in Iowa City, the son of Michael and Mary Hosking Kelley. He was a 1991 graduate of City High School and received his bachelor's degree in 1996 from the University of Iowa. Following graduation from the university, Sean's adventuresome spirit took him to Anchorage, Alaska, and Los Angeles, where he cooked and catered on movie locations. He returned to Iowa City and received his teaching certification in 2002 from the University of Iowa.
In 2002, Sean moved to Round Rock, Texas, where he taught elementary school and special education in the high school. He also coached soccer, tennis and cross country.
Sean loved to party with friends, play adult soccer and camp. He was a loyal Hawkeye fan and enjoyed time spent on RAGBRAI.
Survivors include his parents, Mary and Michael, and his brother, Brian (Mariah) Kelley, of Iowa City; his niece, Clementine; his paternal grandmother, RoseMary Kelley of Rochester, Minn.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and his devoted yellow lab, Sammy.
Sean was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marvin and Virgil Hosking and Charles Kelley; his uncle, Greg Kelley; and cousin, Matthew Kelley.
