SEAN ROBERT HENDERSON
Cedar Rapids
Sean Robert Henderson, 33, of Cedar Rapids, passed away unexpectedly May 1, 2022 after a long battle with addiction. While this disease has taken away our beloved partner, father, son, brother and friend far too early, his life, like so many others who have suffered through these circumstances, was and will continue to be remembered for so much more than his illness.
Sean was born March 21, 1989, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He grew up in Cedar Rapids, attending Erskine Elementary, Hiawatha Elementary, Harding Middle School and Kennedy High School. He was and will continue to be someone who was well-liked by many of his peers.
In his free time, Sean enjoyed traveling and spending time with family, friends, and the love of his life, Erika. Be it Chicago, Puerto Rico, Lake Vermilion or a hideaway here in town, Sean was quick to showcase his knack for photography, videography and other creative endeavors during his day-to-day adventures. What really fueled his passion, however, was the skating culture. He was a regular fixture at the Cedar Rapids skate park and made a name for himself along with his pals in the group dubbed "Mobbed Mafia." To many, Sean was a skating legend and will be deeply missed by members of the Cedar Rapids skate community.
In 2011, Sean's life changed when he met Erika Gusta during a night out with friends. The two shared a kiss through a glass window and were inseparable ever since. Together they started a family by adopting Mac, their darling rescue dog, and eventually welcomed daughter Calla into their loving arms in February 2021.
Sean is survived by those who loved him most: his partner, Erika Gusta; daughter, Calla Henderson; parents, Annette Henderson and John (Signe) Henderson; three sisters, Lisa (Scott) Locker, Erin (Jeromy) Jones and Dana (Adam) Burger; grandfather, Jack Henderson; stepbrother, Will Riepe; nephew and nieces, Reis Savage, Hadlee Locker and Ruth Burger; and many loving uncles, aunts, and cousins. Sean is also survived by Erika Gusta's loving family: Shannon Hogan, Tad (Lauri) Gusta, Garrett Gusta, Frankie Shebek and Matthew Shebek.
Sean was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clare and Ruth Hodson and Ruth Henderson; uncle, Robert Henderson; and stepbrother, Robert Benesh.
Our dear Sean, you were and will continue to be loved by so, so many. Your empathy and compassion for others will never be forgotten. Wishing you a peaceful rest until we are able to embrace you and your warm smile on the other side.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 9, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, in the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A livestream of the memorial service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for Sean Robert Henderson, under the video tab starting at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 10.
In lieu of flowers, we ask you to consider donating to a trust account in Calla Henderson's name.
