Scranton, Pearl 'Pat' M.
Pearl "Pat" M. Scranton, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at home Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, surrounded by her family. Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Brad Sherman. The family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home. Burial: 2 p.m. Monday at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Marshalltown.
Survivors include her sons, Kent (Mary) Scranton of Solon and Kelly (Connie) Scranton of Rochester, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Shareen Melvin; brother, Joe (Bea) Arnold; and many nieces and nephews.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Wade; parents; sons, Neal (Betty) Scranton and Nels Scranton; brothers, Chuck and Bud; and sisters, Doris, Mildred, Betty and Mary.
Born Nov. 22, 1921, in Marshalltown, Iowa, Pearl was the daughter of Joe and Mayme (Overland) Arnold. On Jan. 11, 1942, she was united in marriage to Wade Scranton. He died March 2, 1992. She worked at Armstrong's Department Store gift wrap and was a homemaker.
Pearl enjoyed her friends at St. Mark's Church, where she was involved with the prayer tree, sewing, being in the outdoors, gardening, crafts and going to garage sales in her spare time.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Pearl's memory.
