Scott, William 'Bill' E.
William “Bill” E. Scott, 89, of Alburnett, died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Prairie Chapel Church, Marion, by the Rev. H. Burr Bryant and the Rev. Keith Scott. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church. Burial: Prairie Chapel Cemetery, Marion. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; two daughters, Judy Scott of Duluth, Minn., and Kristena (Steve Boddicker) Johnson of Vinton; one grandson, Jason (Lisa Yoder) Johnson of Parkersburg; one sister, Wyoma (Bill) Bradley of Washington State; and sisters-in-law, Jeanne Carey of Albuquerque, N.M., and Luaine Carey of Reisterstown, Md.
Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Clyde Scott, Irvin Scott, Genevie Hutton, Leah Hamilton, Mary Esther Jordan, Agnes Johnson, Bob Carey, Bonnie Eishmann and David Carey.
Bill was born Sept. 20, 1920, the son of Marcus and Lola (Beggs) Scott, in Linn County, Iowa. He married Gertrude Gunkel on Sept. 19, 1943, in Belfield, N.D. Bill was a lifelong farmer in the Marion and Alburnett areas and was also employed at FMC for 27 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Prairie Chapel Church and Linn County Farm Bureau.
