Scott, William
William Scott, 82, of Indialantic, Fla., formerly of 3128 Sidney St. NE, Cedar Rapids, died Feb. 2, 2011, in Melbourne, Fla. His body was cremated, with burial at sea. Celebration of Life: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at VFW Post 788, 3240 Southgate Place SW, Cedar Rapids. There will be jazz music, pictures of President Ronald Reagan, food and laughter.
Bill had formerly worked for Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. for 34 years and was a 34-year member of the local IBEW, life member of VFW Post 788, American Legion and the Republican Party. He was a member of the State Republican Party of Iowa, a 1976 Reagan alternate to the National Convention in Kansas City, and a Reagan delegate to the 1980 National Convention in Detroit, Mich.
Bill served in the Merchant Marines during World War II when he was 16 years old, ferrying troops and supplies to the Allied Forces and bringing prisoners of war to the United States in 1944-1945.
Bill married Ruth F. Schott on Oct. 25, 1947. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2006. Bill and Ruth had seven children.
Survivors include his children, Linda J. Wright, William D. Scott II, Nick Scott, Lana Jobes, Cindy Light, Lari Jo Neibert and Greg Scott.
He was preceded in death by Ruth Scott, Mildred Diebler-Newman, Gaylord Scott, Gerald Diebler and Mary Diebler.
