Scott E. Seibert, 78, of Chanhassen, Minn., died peacefully on Monday, Nov. 27, 2017. Scott was formerly a 41-year resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at St. Hubert Catholic Church in Chanhassen by the Rev. Rolf Tollefson. Friends may greet the family one hour before to the service.

Scott was born on his father's birthday, Feb. 15, 1939, in Salem, Ill., the only son of Dr. Warren and Pearl (Buhrman) Seibert. He graduated from Salem High School and went on to graduate from the University of Illinois-Champaign, with a B.S. degree in 1962. He was president of his fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi. He received his M.S. degree in 1964 from the University of Wisconsin--Madison. Scott married Mary Jo Sutter on Oct. 24, 1964, in Mount Horeb, Wis. Scott proudly served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., from 1964 to 1966. In 1972, he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Reserve as a captain.

Scott joined the Pillsbury Co. in Minneapolis in 1966 as a product development scientist. In 1971, he joined National Oats Co. in Cedar Rapids, where he proudly worked for 30 years, retiring in January 2002 as vice president of research and development.

Scott was a member of Institute of Food Technologists, American Association of Cereal Chemists, the Cedar Rapids Downtown Rotary Club and SCORE.

Scott was a member of St. Hubert Catholic Church in Chanhassen and a former member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, serving as president of its school board for two terms.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary Jo; and their children, Susan Frommelt, husband, Mark, and their three children, Eleanor, Andrew and Louis, of Chanhassen; Craig Seibert of Omaha, Neb.; and Sarah Hawley, husband, Craig, and their three children, Annabelle, Amelia and Max, of Medina, Minn. Also surviving are David W. Sutter (brother-in-law) of Libertyville, Ill.; and six nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Mary Sutter.

Scott enjoyed traveling, reading, sporting events, biking, walking and spending time grooming his immaculate yard. Scott was an avid reader and lifelong learner. He loved his career in the food science industry, a good craft beer and a dry joke.

Scott was a kind and gentle man with love and devotion for his family and friends. He was fondly known as "Papa" by his grandchildren and will be greatly missed.
