Scott R. Phillips went to be with the Lord early Saturday morning, Oct. 8, 2022, at his home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Scott was born in Cedar Rapids on Oct. 20, 1951, to Richard and Luanne Phillips. Scott married Judie S. Slaton on Dec. 1, 1973, in Cedar Rapids. Scott served on the Cedar Rapids police department for 35 years. Scott was a member of the First Church of the Open Bible serving in many capacities over the fifty years of his involvement, including teaching Sunday School, playing in the church orchestra and serving on the Board of Elders for 35 years. Â Scott lived an exemplary Christian life and over the years of his life demonstrated his love for the Lord and for people in many ways.
Scott is survived by the love of his life, Judie; two children, Eric (Stephanie) Phillips of Solon, Iowa, and Thad (Erin) Phillips of West Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Stephen, Noah, Sophia Grace, Isaac, Quinlin, Emmett, Rylee and Olivia; many nieces and nephews; his mother, Luanne Phillips; and his brother, Dr. Nicholas (Carol) Phillips of Livonia, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Phillips.
Special thanks is extended to Dr. Mohammed and his staff at the University of Iowa and Mercy Hospice of Cedar Rapids.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the First Church of the Open Bible, Cedar Rapids, with the service following at 11 a.m. Pastor Harris Holsapple will officiate.
