Scott J. McSpadden, 54, of Bayard, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Nov. 6, 2017, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines following a short battle with cancer. A memorial service to honor Scott's life will be held at
3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Stateroom.
Surviving Scott are his children, Amber Derise, Christopher Hupp, Shayn (Megan) Mason, Kayla (Jacob Trujillo) McSpadden and Stephanie McSpadden; his siblings, Ted, Rick, Brian and Sandy; and his six grandchildren.
Scott Jay McSpadden was born Oct. 7, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Donald Ervin McSpadden Jr. and Janet Faith (Hulsberg) McSpadden. Scott worked for Osmundson Manufacturing in Perry for over 20 years. He previously was a member of the Bagley Volunteer Fire Department and for a time served as fire chief.
Scott will be remembered as having a rough exterior but a heart of gold who enjoyed the company of his family and friends. He enjoyed video games, movies, music and art, frequently attending art festivals. Scott spent a significant amount of time working on his house, including renovating and gardening.
Memorial donations in Scott's honor may be directed to the family.
