Scott, John Allan
John Allan Scott, 77, of Tucson, Ariz., passed away Monday, May 31, 2010, in LaGrange, Ga., after a sudden illness. A family memorial will be held in LaGrange. A celebration of his life will be held in Cedar Rapids this summer.
John was born March 25, 1933, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of the late Norman B. and Martha A. (Gearkee) Scott. He was a graduate of Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and received his M.A. from the University of Iowa. John taught for over 22 years with the Cedar Rapids schools, at Franklin and Harding Junior High. He also worked for the Norman Scott Co., retiring as CEO.
John was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids, retired to Tucson and then joined Holy Way Presbyterian. He served in various ministries, as elder for both congregations, was involved with Civil War Round Table and genealogy research. John loved history, traveling, and most of all his family.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorie (Dauenbaugh); daughters, Kathy (Craig) Hanway and Kristy (Smokey) McKinney; a son, Ken (Debbie) Scott; grandchildren, Jeff and Nick Hanway, Megan (McKinney) and Seth Todd, Lindsay (McKinney) and Nick Sayre, Taylor McKinney, Mike (Julie) Scott, Laura and Emily Scott; two sisters, Jane Messerall and Shirley (Jeff) Brown of LaGrange, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.
