SCOTT BRIAN BLACKFORD Marion Scott Brian Blackford, 44, of Marion, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, from injuries sustained in an accident south of Alburnett. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Lynn Dunn Memorial Building at the Linn County Fairgrounds in Central City. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the Lynn Dunn Memorial Building conducted by the Rev. Daniel Peterson. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, Alburnett. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, is assisting the family. Scott is survived by his wife, Dawn of Marion; daughters, Makenna, Riley and Abbigail, all of Marion; parents, Bud and Kris Blackford of Alburnett; brother, Bret (Dana) Blackford of Marion; sister, Holly (Darrick) Hall of Anamosa; maternal grandmother, Mary Wright Strief of Marion; father- and mother-in-law, Doug and Candy Plotz of Ely; brothers-in-law, Chaddwick Plotz of China and Matthew (Lesley) Plotz of Ely; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and a niece. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ralph and Louise Blackford; and his maternal grandfather, Arlo "Lefty" Wright. Scott was born Sept. 12, 1972, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Bud and Kris (Wright) Blackford. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1991, where he participated in football, wrestling and FFA. Scott received his bachelor's degree of business from Buena Vista College. He was a master industrial electrician for many years, working at Justice Electric and Acme Electric. Scott also did carpentry and landscaping as a hobby. He was a member of the Alburnett Christian Church, Alburnett Lions Club and Electrical Union 405. Growing up, Scott was a 4-H member, and then as a father was involved in 4-H activities with his daughters. Scott was a HUGE Nebraska Cornhusker fan! He was also a gifted woodworker. Scott treasured his family, was a good provider and spent a great deal of time with his daughters. He shared a strong faith with his wife. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to the Scott Blackford Memorial Fund to be directed toward his daughters' education.
