Schumacher, Forrrest 'Dean'
Forrest “Dean” Schumacher, 85, of Iowa City, died peacefully Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Gay & Ciha Funeral Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Entombment will take place at Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
Dean was born Feb. 8, 1926, in Chatsworth, Iowa. He worked for Amoco Oil and retired after a 30-year career. Dean and the love of his life, Laura, were married for 62 years. They've lived in many towns across Iowa during his career, moving in 1963 to Iowa City, where they raised their three children.
Dean was a lifetime member of the Elks and while golfing at the Elks Lodge made many lifelong friends. After retirement, they spent their winters as “snow birds” in New Braunfels, Texas with many of those golfing friends.
Dean was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He loved people and people loved to be around him; even in sickness he was a loving and gracious man.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Marie Schumacher; brother, Donal Schumacher; and sister, Shirley Farrell.
His family includes his wife, Laura; son, Mark (Nicole Craven) Schumacher; daughter, Nancy (Mike) Abbott, and her son and daughter Jesse (Sara) Klug and Kinsey Klug; and his son, Don (Sara) Schumacher, and their daughter, Kayla.
Dean's family would like to extend a special thanks to Brenda, Jammie and Amy of Iowa Hospice for all their care and compassion.
