Schultz, Arlene Tanner
Arlene Tanner Schultz, 91, of 820 Edward Ct. SE, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, in St. Luke's Hospital from complications resulting from a stroke. A funeral service and celebration of her 91 years will be held in First Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and at the church after 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Arlene married Ralph Schultz on Sept. 27, 1942, in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1998. His involvement in the El Kahir Shrine led Arlene to a lifetime commitment of service to the Shrine. She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, El Kahir Shrine Auxiliary, Daughters of the Nile, El Kahir Widows Club, Marion American Legion Post 298 Auxiliary, St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary and the Cedar Rapids Elks Club.
Arlene was the daughter of Merl and Violet Tanner, born and raised in Palo, Iowa. She attended the Cedar Rapids Business College and made a career as secretary and bookkeeper at Iowa National Mutual Insurance Co., Mayflower Transfer, and Storage and Office Equipment Co.
Arlene is survived by her sister, Genevieve Stickney; local nephews, Tom (Shirley) Stickney, Jim Stickney and Danny Stickney; niece, Susan Arlene Stickney; as well as many nieces and nephews on the Stickney and Schultz sides of the family.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and a brother-in-law, Harold Stickney.
