Schulte, Gregory M.
Gregory M. Schulte, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center, following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: 4 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cemetery, Dorchester. A Vigil Service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday where friends may visit with the family from 3 to 8 p.m. and again after 9 a.m. Friday at the church. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Greg is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean; eight children, Cathy (Jim) Lash of Thermopolis, Wyo., Kevin (Beth) of Cedar Rapids, Jack (Debbie) of Grinnell, Duane (Sherry) of Cedar Rapids, Kary (Kathleen) of Des Moines, Darrel (Connie), Christy (Nate) Pruett and Regina (Jason) Klein all of Cedar Rapids; 22 grandchildren Katie, Kyle, Matt, Mark, Jackson, Palmer, Sadie, Reggie, Bryce, Quinn, Hope, Mary Kate, Annie, Michael, Zach, Lindsey, Jenna, Cole, Audrey, Christian, Jack and Riley; great-grandchild, Conner; two brothers, Norbert (Rita) of New Albin and Lloyd (Ruth Ann) of Waukon; one sister Jeanette McCormick of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Reggie; two brothers, John and Cletus; and three sisters, infant Margaret Schulte, Marge Tierney and Angela Reagan.
Gregory Matthew was born Sept. 25, 1930, in Dorchester, the son of John and Ella (Conner) Schulte. He married Jean Ann Fahey on Feb. 27, 1954, in Waukon. Greg worked as a farmer and postal clerk, retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and former member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Greg enjoyed spending time with his family, attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and watching classic Western television shows. He never spoke a bad word about anyone, never complained about anything and always had a great sense of humor.
The family is happy to know that according to his favorite Willie Nelson song, he is “On the Road Again.”
Instead of flowers a memorial fund has been established to benefit St. Jude and St. Patrick Catholic Churches and Xavier High School.
